Proponents like the late Mr. John B Higgins, an American citizen, have earned the status of a Bhagavathar or the enlightened minstrel).

Mr. Tiruvarur Vaidyanathan, age 51 years, is prolific Carnatic music percussionist, very versatile in playing several Indian percussion instruments like Mridungam, a double sided wooden drum; Kanjira, a circular hand held drum; Ghatam, a clay pot inlaid with metals to provide a timbre unlike any other instrument.

Mr. Vaidyanathan started learning his main instrument, the Mridangam at the tender age of 5 and has been performing professionally since the age of 10 years, bringing a total of 4 decades of being on the stage.
